About this piece

Three measurements and two numbers. Enter the inside length and width of your box, the height you want the insert to be, and how many compartments across and down. The insert is generated to drop in with one and a half millimeters of total clearance, with 1.6 mm walls, a 1.6 mm floor and a finger cut on every compartment so nothing has to be shaken out.

It is title agnostic by design. We do not need to know the game, only the box. If the box is bigger than our 300 mm build area in either direction, the insert ships as sections with a keyed joint that locks them square.

What it is for

  • Board game boxes that came with a plastic tray that does not fit the expansion.
  • Boxes where everything lives in bags and setup takes ten minutes.
  • Storage boxes, tool cases and drawers where a plain grid of compartments would help.
  • Collectors' boxes for painted pieces, with a compartment per piece.

For card heavy games, pair it with a card tray in your card size and leave one compartment of the insert the size of the tray.

How to measure

  1. Inside length. Open the box, set the lid aside, and measure the long inside dimension from wall to wall at the bottom. Boxes taper slightly, so the bottom is the number that matters.
  2. Inside width. The same across the short side.
  3. Insert height. Measure the inside depth, then subtract what will sit on top of the insert: the board, the rulebook, punchboards. Ten to fifteen millimeters is typical. If nothing sits on top, use the full depth minus two millimeters.
  4. Compartments. Think in kinds of things: cards, tokens, dice, player pieces, money. Pick a grid across and down with at least one compartment per kind.

Millimeters or inches, the toggle is above the fields. A tape measure is fine. If you have calipers, use them for the length and width.

Questions about the custom box insert

What if my box is not square inside?

Measure both ends. If they differ by more than two millimeters, enter the smaller and the insert will drop in with a little extra play at the wide end.

How accurate are the prints?

Outside dimensions hold within about 0.3 percent, under a millimeter on a 250 mm insert. The 1.5 mm total clearance absorbs that and the box's own variation.

How do the sections join on a large insert?

Each section has a tongue on one edge and a matching groove on the other. They slide together by hand and the box walls hold them closed. There is no glue.

Can I get different heights in different compartments?

Not from the configurator. Email us the layout and heights and we will quote it as a custom job.

What if it does not fit?

If it does not fit the measurements you entered, we remake it free. If the measurements were off, the remake is half price. Read the fit guarantee for the details.
