Desk Name Plate
A solid desk name plate that leans back on its own base, your name inlaid flush in a second color, in four finishes.
About this piece
This is the plate we would put on our own desk. It is a solid 22 mm slab, 64 mm tall, that leans back eight degrees on a base cut at that angle, so the name reads from the chair across the desk and the plate never wobbles. Your name is inlaid flush in a second color in the same print: no paint, no sticker, no edge to lift.
Fluted, Contour and Morse plates print lying on their back with the face up, which is what lets us work the face itself. Choose one of four finishes:
- Fluted, No. 01 Linen. Fine vertical flutes across the whole face, stopping in soft rounded ends around a smooth panel that holds the name. Quiet and tactile, and the one most people choose.
- Contour, No. 01 Linen. A topographic map drawn from your own letters. The name is the summit and every ring around it is generated from its outline, so the map is drawn from your own letters. Change a letter and the map changes with it.
- Morse, No. 01 Linen. The flutes spell your name in Morse code, in a band above the name and the same band below it. A narrow flute is a dot, a wide flute is a dash, a smooth gap ends a letter and a wider gap ends a word. To a visitor it reads as texture; you can read it as your name. Prefer a date or a short word? Type it in the Morse field instead. The same text always gives the same pattern, and the decode line comes on the card in the box.
- Classic. Our original wedge: a 58 mm face leaning back twelve degrees with the name set flush into it, printed face down for a fine matte face.
Fluted, Contour and Morse carry the Keyedworks mark, a small square keyway notch in the top edge.
Colors come in named pairs. The matte pairs are the base price. A metallic or satin name (gold, silver, copper, rose gold or champagne) or a metal body adds $6, and a marble, wood or shimmer body adds $10, once per plate.
Where it goes
- A home office desk, where it turns a table into your desk.
- A reception counter or front desk, where the name needs to read from the door.
- A new job, a promotion or a first office. It is the gift that says you belong here.
- Team orders: the five and ten plate packs take one name per line at a lower price per plate. Write to us for more than ten.
The base is 24 mm deep, so it stands firm on any flat surface.

Questions about the desk name plate
Which finish should I pick?
Fluted if you want it calm and tactile, Contour if you want a map drawn from the letters of your own name, Classic for the simple wedge at the lowest price. The colorway chips show the pairs we think look best.
How do I read the Morse finish?
Read either band from left to right. A narrow flute is a dot, a wide flute is a dash, a smooth gap ends a letter and a wider smooth gap ends a word. Avery reads .- ...- . .-. -.-- (A, V, E, R, Y). The card in the box prints your own line so anyone can check it.
Does the same name give the same Morse pattern?
Yes. It is an exact encoding of what you type, so the same name gives the same rhythm on any plate, and a different spelling gives a different one. Long messages make the plate a little wider so every flute stays crisp; if a message is too long for one plate, the page tells you before you order.
What do the metallic and marble colors cost?
The matte pairs cost nothing extra. A metallic or satin name or a metal body is $6 more, and a marble, wood or shimmer body is $10 more. You pay the higher one once, so Jade (a shimmer body with a gold name) is $10, not $16.
How do I choose the size?
Count the characters including spaces. Small takes up to 8, medium up to 11, large up to 14. The letters are the same height in every size; the plate grows with the name.
Can you make several for a team?
Yes. The team packs take five or ten names, one per line, at $45 or $42.50 a plate in Fluted, and we email a proof list before anything prints. For more than ten, email [email protected] with the list and we will confirm a ship date before you pay.
Will the name fade or wear?
No. The color is the material itself, inlaid flush with the face. Keep it out of hot cars and off radiators, since the plastic softens above about 55 degrees Celsius.
